Marybourough Pump Stations Upgrade

Carlow County Council contracted David Walsh Civil Engineering Ltd. to upgrade its existing foul and storm pumping stations at the north western corner of Graiguecullen Bridge, adjacent to Maryborough Street, Carlow.  The existing pumping station consisted of a storm pumping chamber located directly underneath an existing control building with a foul pumping chamber located externally to the existing building.

A key constraint was the requirement to maintain operation of the two pumping stations for the duration of the Contract, while undertaking complete refurbishment of the existing pumping station.

Works involved the construction of a new MCC control building and pumping station with bespoke design and installation of a lifting gantry. Extensive elements of the works were required to be carried out in public roads in a busy, urban environment close to existing residential accommodation, requiring extensive and effective pedestrian and vehicular traffic management.
